Fan who attacked Orton states why he did it

ENCA.com out of Johannesburg, South Africa, has picked up on the story of a fan attacking Randy Orton during the Cape Town live event, and the following is an article excerpt:

An over eager fan was met with a boot to the head from WWE wrestler Randy Orton in Cape Town yesterday after he jumped into the ring and hit Orton in the groin.
Local wrestling fan Tshepo Sekhabi, who quit his job in Johannesburg to attend the event, left yesterday night's WWE world tour in Cape Town with a black eye and swollen face after getting kicked just under the eye by Orton.
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is currently performing events across South Africa as part of its World Tour.
Sekhabi (20) scaled the security barrier and easily evaded the events security guards to enter the ring where Orton was celebrating a victory against fellow wrestler Big E Langston.
Sekhabi had time to pause and size up Orton, who was standing on the rings corner ropes, before executing a shocking blow to the wrestlers groin.
Orton fell to the canvas following the hit as security rushed in to apprehend the assailant. Security managed to haul Sekhabi out of the ring, but not before the ‘Apex Predator’ managed to cross the ring and deliver a solid kick to his attackers head.
An equally irate Langston, real name Ettore Ewen, also had to be restrained by security from accosting Sekhabi outside of the ring.
Sekhabi was escorted to the casino’s security offices where he was issued with a five-year ban notice.
In the offices Sekhabi, who said he doesn’t drink or take any drugs, eagerly posed for photos and willingly gave a statement to security personnel.
Calling himself “Jozi, the wrestling machine” Sekhabi said he planned the attack before he arrived said “I just don’t like Randy Orton, this was an opportunity for me so I got up there and made a name for myself.”

Randy Orton Set For RAW Tonight?, Y2J/Kofi Praised, More

– Randy Orton is being advertised for tonight’s RAW in Portland, Oregon. It should be interesting as Orton is scheduled to be re-evaluated today after suffering a concussion during a match with The Big Show several weeks ago on RAW. Orton has been out of action since then and was forced to be pulled from the Elimination Chamber match. Obviously, WWE is hoping for the best today.

– Chris Jericho and Kofi Kingston both received high praise for their matches at weekend RAW live events.

– Former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson and real-life boyfriend Alex Rodriguez were spotted at last night’s NBA All-Star Game.

Early WWE RAW Preview + Long-Laurinaitis Feud

– Tonight’s WWE Monday night RAW will take place from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The only thing announced so far is The Undertaker calling out Triple H. CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler and John Cena vs. Kane are the advertised dark matches. It should also be noted that SD talents Ted DiBiase, Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Sheamus, Big Show and Daniel Bryan are all advertised locally for the show.

– WWE edited out Randy Orton’s botched RKO on Big Show from last Monday’s RAW during replays in the U.K.

– Teddy Long tweeted the following last night in regards to his currently storyline with John Laurinaitis: “Listen, playas. I’m not going anywhere. And if @WWERawGM thinks any differently then he truly is as clueless as he looks. #Chamber”

William Regal then chimed in with the following: “@GMSmackDown @WWERawGM Perhaps it’s time for me to take over from both of you.I’m better than both of you and far more better dressed.#over”

Kane's return update

– Current creative plans call for Kane to return at the Royal Rumble.

WWE.com announced July 22, 2011 that Kane would be sidelined for at least three months due to a fractured fibula. He sustained the injury while being attacked by Mark Henry on the previous night’s SmackDown, which occurred moments after Randy Orton defeated the multi-time champion in a Street Fight.

*Spoilers!* WWE SD! results for Friday 10/7

SmackDown:
*Smackdown opens with a backstage segment featuring Teddy Long and Zack Ryder discussing the Raw walk-out. Long says Raw’s loss will be Smackdown’s gain.

*In the ring are Christian, Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes and Vickie Guerrero. They say that unless HHH steps down as COO, they will be boycotting live events as its not a safe working environment.

*WWE champ Alberto Del Rio comes out and says that the Smackdown stars won’t return to Raw as long as HHH is COO. He’s here to show Smackdown what Raw will be missing this Monday. Teddy Long comes out and announces Sheamus & Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes & Christian as tonight’s main event, but says that since Del Rio wants to be in action tonight, he will face Sin Cara.

*WWE champion Alberto Del Rio defeated Sin Cara. After the match, Black Cara attacked Blue Cara.

*Backstage, Matt Striker interviewed WWE Tag Team champions Air Boom, asking them why they walked out on Raw. They said it was a culmination of many things but until HHH steps down, the fans won’t see Air Boom anywhere but Smackdown.

*Jack Swagger and WWE United States champion Dolph Ziggler defeated WWE Tag Team champions Air Boom in a non title match. The champions were attacked as they made their entrance and were on the defensive for most of the match.

*WWE Divas champion Beth Phoenix defeated Alicia Fox in 30 seconds. After the match, Fox was trapped in Beth’s submission while Natalya screamed at her on the mic to cry and scream.

*Big Show makes his return and cuts a promo about finally returning after being hurt for several months. World champion Mark Henry came out and cut a promo saying he’ll deal with Show in time, but Show hasn’t done a thing to deserve a title shot.

*Matt Striker interviewed Randy Orton, asking him why he wasn’t out there for the HHH vote of confidence on Monday. Orton says if he has a problem with HHH, he’ll deal with him personally. He says he doesn’t play well with others and doesn’t like a group mentality.

*Big Show returns to the ring and says that he wants Mark Henry tonight and wants Henry’s answer by tonight. It looks like they are adding something to the previous segment or perhaps re-filming it.

*Ezekiel Jackson pinned Jinder Mahal.

*Backstage, Johnny Ace shows up in Teddy Long’s office and says Teddy can count on him if he needs anything.

*There is a segment were Hornswoggle and Booker T do Spinaroonies, but that’s likely going to be a segment for the live house only.

*Randy Orton & Sheamus defeated WWE Intercontinental champion Cody Rhodes & Christian after Orton nailed Cody with the RKO.

*They teased something with Henry and Show but I have to head out due to an early meeting. If they did anything once they ended the taping, I’ll miss it. Interesting to note that like Dayton a few weeks ago, the entire side of the Arena where the hard cameras was located was tarped off with the entire audience on the one side of the venue.

*Spoilers!* WWE SD! results for Friday 9/30

WWE SmackDown!:

Booker T started off the show by interviewing Mark Henry, who said he was going to end Randy Orton’s career. Henry said Orton isn’t going to beat him just like Great Khali won’t beat him tonight.

3. Sin Cara beat Heath Slater. Sin Cara won with the Swanton Bomb. Post match, the other Sin Cara appeared on the Tron and cut a promo in Spanish. He took his mask off to reveal a new black mask and black outfit. He said this Sunday we will find out who is supposed to be Sin Cara.

Backstage, John Laurinaitis talked with the group of wrestlers who plan on suing. They all agreed to take action against Triple H this Monday.

4. Kelly Kelly beat Natalya (w/Beth Phoenix). Kelly Kelly won with a roll up. After the match, Beth hit the Glam Slam on Kelly Kelly. Natalya put her in a submission maneuver as Beth cut a promo.

Cody Rhodes cut a promo about Randy Orton’s actions from last week and how WWE took no action. He was not happy about defending his title against Sheamus tonight.

5. Sheamus beat Cody Rhodes via disqualification. Christian came in and jumped Sheamus for the DQ. After the match, Christian hit the Killswitch on Sheamus.

6. Zack Ryder beat JTG. Ryder won with the Rough Ryder.
Backstage, Triple H confronted John Laurinaitis about the meeting he had with the disgruntled superstars. Laurinaitis said he was loyal to Triple H.

They ran down the card for HIAC. Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara was one of the matches listed.
Matt Striker interviewed Randy Orton backstage. Typical Orton promo.

7. Randy Orton fought Christian to a double countout. After the match, Orton tried to beat up Christian. Cody came out and attacked Orton. Sheamus came and cleared the ring and chased Christian to the back. Henry then came out to attack Orton and hit the World’s Strongest Slam. Henry went to get a chair, but when he got back in the ring Orton hit him with an RKO.

Dark Match

WWE edits a major bloodbath off SD!

As noted earlier this week here on the website, Randy Orton caused Cody Rhodes to heavily bleed on SmackDown! following an errant shot to the head with the ring bell. Cameras quickly cut to close-up shots of Orton’s face, with Rhodes’ back only being visible for the remainder of the segment. Personnel covered Rhodes’ head with a towel before Orton struck him with an RKO on the broadcast table.

The replay, however, showed blood streaming from the back of Rhodes’ head.

According to fans in attendance at Tuesday’s taping, pools of bloods were scattered around the ring following the segment.

They did a hell of a job editing that as it was said to have been brutal on Tuesday night at the TV tapings.

– Mason Ryan, who has been sidelined since late June to an undisclosed injury, is advertised to appear at the September 25 RAW live event in Lubbock, Texas.

*Spoliers!* SmackDown results for Friday 6/17

Below are the taping results for this week’s WWE SmackDown!:

Smackdown opens with World champion Randy Orton coming out and announcing his concussion but says that he doesn’t care and still wants a piece of Christian. Teddy Long comes out and says he doesn’t care and wants Christian. Long says he can’t allow Orton to compete. Christian comes out and says he’s going to win the World title this Sunday. This brings out Sheamus who says he beat Orton last week and he’s the one who deserves a title shot. Christian calls him Strawberry Shortcake and tells him that it’s not his time. Long announces Christian vs. Sheamus for the main event tonight. If Sheamus wins, he gets into the title match on Sunday and it’s a Triple Threat. If Christian wins, the match remains as it currently stands. Orton will be at ringside but not allowed to get involved.

*In a rematch from Raw, Sin Cara & Daniel Bruan & Ezekiel Jackson defeated Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes & WWE Intercontinental champ Wade Barrett when Bryan pinned DiBiase in what was obviously a terribly screwed up finish as the referee counted three as DiBiase kicked out.
Note – they did show the replay of the finish, so perhaps it was a storyline thing – just came off really weird.

*Sheamus cuts a backstage promo promising to beat Christian tonight and Orton Sunday to become the new World champion.

*Jinder Mahal defeated Vladimir Kozlov.

*Josh Matthews interviewed Big Show inside the ring, asking why him why he was here on Smackdown. Show said that he heard Alberto Del Rio was going to be here. Long comes out and says that if Alberto is here, Show cannot lay a hand on him. He said that Del Rio is contemplating pressing charges on Show for what he did to Ricardo on Raw. Long said he and Show will both lose their jobs if that happens (the crowd cheered, really), but Show has an opponent tonight – Mark Henry.

The match never really happens as Show goes nuts and destroys Henry, laying him out. Officials and medics come out and Henry is stretchered out.

*Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes & Tamina defeated AJ, Natalya & Kaitlyn when Tamina pinned AJ with a Samoan Drop.

*Johnny Curtis cuts a promo backstage saying his debut is near and (standing near a miniature gold setup) he’s going to be the Ace in the hole, pulling an Ace Card out of the hole.

*Christian cuts a promo backstage saying the match against Sheamus is a bad call and he shouldn’t have to prove himself to anyone.

*The Usos defeated Justin Gabriel & Health Slater.

*Alberto Del Rio arrived and cut a promo saying that Ricardo was destroyed by Big Show and can’t provide for his own daughter anymore. He promised to dedicate his win this Sunday to Ricardo. They made it out like he was gone for good. Show came out and Del Rio chased into the crowd by The Big Show. Show was all mad and destroyed the ringside table.

*Christian defeated Sheamus. Randy Orton chased him to the back, then returned to punt Sheamus to close the taping.

Report: Backstage heat on John Morrison & Melina

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

– Randy Orton said on Twitter that WWE’s upcoming DVD on “The Viper” will be released in September and that he’ll post a link to a teaser clip soon. The working title for the product is The Randy Orton Experience.

– Dolph Ziggler is en route to Turkey to promote WWE’s upcoming tour in the country.

– There is backstage heat on real-life couple John Morrison and Melina.

Both Superstars felt that Trish Stratus took Melina’s spot in the Six-Person Mixed Tag Team Match at Wrestlemania XXVII and have been giving her the cold shoulder since her return. Additionally, Morrison rejected various ideas Stratus had for their ongoing storyline.

Many feel this will hurt both Morrison and Melina since Stratus is highly regarded amongst WWE personnel.

Snooki-WWE update, Orton interview

– Due to Snooki’s involvement with the WWE press conference yesterday, WWE got a lot of mainstream media coverage today. That is obviously what the company was hoping for.

The Baltimore Sun has a Q&A up with Randy Orton, which you can read at http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/ Here is an excerpt where he discusses CM Punk… “That’s true. He was already known – he had done a lot of the Ring of Honor and local independent-type stuff in the Midwest, and he had done some traveling. He was somewhat well-known on an independent level, and I think when he first got called up, he had a lot going against him. He had to prove his worth – we all have to. Some of us have it easier than others. My father got my foot in the door, but eventually it’s up to the performer to prove themselves, and he definitely proved himself. He’s a multiple world champion; he’s got the background; he’s got the dedication. He won the Money in the Bank years before, and he cashed it in, won the championship – he’s done well for himself. But when it comes to CM Punk, I think as far as talent goes, as far as determination on setting a goal and accomplishing that goal, he is nothing – nothing – compared to me when it comes to getting the job done and performing at that level. I have way more experience than he does performing in front of these kinds of crowds, and I’m going to have the crowd on my side, so he’s got the odds against him going into this thing no matter what way you look at it. And not only that, he’s not going to have the rest of his team – The New Nexus – which is pretty much not even in existence anymore. I have completely put that to an end. But it’s just him; no one has his back at WrestleMania XXVII. And that’s going to be good for me because it’s just man to man, toe to toe, me and CM Punk in the ring, nobody else, no interference, and it’s going to go my way.”

Otunga not happy with J-Hud’s weight loss, Piper

– Roddy Piper and The Miz will be appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow night, promoting WrestleMania 27 and the WWE All Stars game. The segment was taped last week.

– WWE Superstar David Otunga is none too pleased with fiancé Jennifer Hudson’s significant weight loss, who has lost a grand total of 80 pounds. The recording artist, actress and Weight Watchers spokesperson appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday where she was asked “What does your fiancé think, does he like the new svelte you?” J-Hud responded, “He’s getting adjusted to it. He’s not really into change that much so he fusses at me like, “Why do you have to have to get all dressed up to go out and why can’t you just go out like you used to?” And I’m like “I’m a walking billboard now honey.”

A source sent this one in: Randy Orton had a semi-private signing at The Sears Holding Corporation in Hoffman estates, IL. I didn’t see it promoted anywhere, and you needed to work at the office or be let in as family or a guest to attend. I’m bad with numbers but there appeared to be a few hundred people here. Kmart is headquartered in the Sears building, and obviously this was part of the new relationship between Kmart and WWE. We were treated to a short speech by a Kmart marketing executive and Orton, which was mostly about this being a big relationship, plus the dinner table commercial, and of course Raw tonight and WrestleMania. There’s going to be some alternate endings to the ad aired in the future. As a nice surprise, instead of getting a cheap piece of paper for signatures, we instead got a full size poster. Very nice! He was kind of tired, but otherwise pleasant.

Randy Orton Speaks Out – Face Turn, Cena/Rock

Randy Orton recently spoke with ESPN.com about his babyface turn, the WWE All-Stars game and more. Check out the highlights:

On his face turn: When you go from being a good guy to a bad guy or vice versa like I did, everyone always tells you, “Don’t change, don’t change.” And in my case, the less change the better because what really happened is the fans turned me. This wasn’t some master plan where all of a sudden I was going to be a good guy, I just started getting a lot of fan support. It’s a fine line because I wasn’t going out there like John Cena high-fiving kids and hugging grandmas and pumping my fist and smiling … if I would’ve done that, I would’ve failed tremendously, kind of like it did back in 2004, when I became the youngest champion in WWE history. That didn’t work at all because I changed so much. So it’s really about looking at your character, seeing what people like about me, like about my character, and seeing how much I can change without changing too much and walking that fine line. I think I’ve done a pretty good job. I’m definitely still learning on the job, though. It took me about five years to get really comfortable as a bad guy, as a heel, and I expect to take another couple of years as a good guy to really come into my own, but I’m definitely on the right path.”

On The Rock vs. John Cena: “I know them both, and I know Cena a lot better than I know The Rock, obviously, but I’ve been in the ring with both cutting promos and wrestling. I have to say, though, talking about the whole ring rust thing, John Cena has had about 2,000 matches in the last seven years. The Rock? A big, fat zero. So when it comes to ring rust, I don’t care what type of athlete you are, and The Rock is obviously an athletic dude, but Cena has been in the ring. He’s been at every show and in every show and making appearances and he has been on the road with the WWE over 300 days a year for the last seven years. The Rock? Virtually non-existent. You see the interviews that The Rock does and he says that he doesn’t want to be known as a wrestler. He doesn’t want to be known as a sports entertainer or a performer with WWE or a WWE superstar. He wants to be known as an actor. Now all of a sudden he’s back in our world telling the fans what they want to hear. He’s telling them: “I promise that I will never go away again. I promise that I’m back for good and that I’m here to stay.” He said that, what, six or seven weeks ago? Have we even seen him live since then? No. Via satellite. I think Cena will own The Rock. I think Cena is wittier and can go off the cuff. Cena writes his own stuff while The Rock has stuff written for him. It just all comes down to who you are in the ring and what kind of performer you are in the ring, and I think Cena is ten times the performer in the ring that The Rock is. This Monday in Chicago, he’ll prove it.”

Snooki’s huge WrestleMania payday + Orton’s next film

– WWE has put up a website (http://thatswhatiammovie.com/) for Randy Orton’s new film That’s What I Am. The film is set in the 1960s and the family drama centers around a bright 12-year-old boy whose English teacher (Ed Harris) pairs him up on a project with the school’s biggest outcast and social pariah, Stanley (aka “Big Red”). When Andy watches Stanley fearlessly confront a school bully, a series of events is unleashed that changes the lives of the boys and their teacher. Orton will play the bully’s father in the film, which will premiere the weekend of 4/29 before a May DVD and Blu-Ray release.

– Snooki is expected to receive a huge payday from WWE for her match at WrestleMania XXVII considering she’s receiving $30,000 for appearing at night clubs only.
