Jerry “The King” Lawler recently did an interview with Alex Marvez for ScrippsNews.com. He talks WrestleMania, Michael Cole, and more. Here are some highlights:
How his mother would react to WWE’s storyline:
“Probably not, but I don’t mean that in a bad way. My mom was never a wrestling fan. She worked for us for 20 years at the (Memphis) wrestling company, but all she did was sold advance tickets for us. She never stayed for the matches. She couldn’t stand watching me wrestle. It made her too nervous. No matter what age, I was always her baby. She was worried about her son getting hurt.”
On nearly giving up on a WrestleMania match:
“Every single year it just seemed like something else would come up. I’d get pushed to the backburner or it just wasn’t remembered. When 2009 and 2010 came and went with nothing there, I wasn’t really expecting anything just because it was a situation where I thought the age thing was going to play a big factor.”
His WrestleMania match with Michael Cole:
“All I know is when I hit him, he’s going down one way or the other whether he knows how to fall or not. In that respect, I don’t think there’s any way he can screw up”

Jerry Lawler Speaks Out – WrestleMania Match, Cole
Trish Stratus Speaks Out – Tough Enough, ‘Mania, More
It’s been a busy couple of months for the legendary 7-time Women’s Champ, Trish Stratus. She’s back in the WWE fold with the USA Network revival of Tough Enough, she’s going to WrestleMania this Sunday, has a movie premiering in one week and is on the cover of Oxygen magazine! With so much going on in the Stratusphere, we decided to give the Diva Dirt Legacy Award winner a call and discuss!
In this exclusive interview, a sequel to our first interview (Diva-Dirt.com) last September, Trish dishes on her return to WWE, working with Snooki and this Sunday’s WrestleMania 27 extravaganza in Atlanta. In this one hour+ interview, we also speak in depth about the upcoming season of Tough Enough, which premieres next week, as Trish gives us her opinion on each of the five female contestants. We also touch upon her stunning Oxygen magazine cover, the world premiere of her debut movie ‘Bail Enforcers’, and the WWE release of Dave ‘Fit’ Finlay who had a big hand in Trish’s training and success in the ring as a WWE Diva.
Some quotes:
On getting the call to do Tough Enough:
“I would say it was about the beginning of February I got this call, ‘Hey, we got this new show Tough Enough which you might have heard about. We want you to be the female trainer on the show’ and of course I was just absolutely honored to be asked. [...] At first they told me, ‘We can’t really tell you the details on who’s going to be involved yet’. I was like, ‘Hmm, well, last time I accepted a show and I didn’t know who was involved, I ended up working with Erik Estrada and Latoya Jackson, so I’d like to know please’. [Laughs] They told me ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin would be the host and I said, ‘I’m in’. And then Bill DeMott and Booker T [became involved] as well, so I was like ‘Oh absolutely’.”
One of the things that made her want to come back & do the storyline going into WrestleMania:
“The opportunity came up to work with Lay-Cool which I’m so excited about. I mean they’ve done such great work. People love to hate them. As a fan, I’ve sat back and I’ve watched — especially Layla — [I've] watched them grow into these great workers. They’ve really come along, especially when you think about where both of their backgrounds are. They’ve put in the work to develop their characters. [...] I was a big fan of their work so to come back and work with them was a neat little opportunity.”
What it’s like working with Snooki:
“She’s so sweet. The first time I met her — the first Raw — she was just really excited to be there and really open minded and I love that when people come from other worlds and are just like, ‘Okay, what do you want me to do?’. Sometimes you get that resistance like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know if I could do that…’ and she was just totally into it.”
Snooki-WWE update, Orton interview
– Due to Snooki’s involvement with the WWE press conference yesterday, WWE got a lot of mainstream media coverage today. That is obviously what the company was hoping for.
– The Baltimore Sun has a Q&A up with Randy Orton, which you can read at http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/ Here is an excerpt where he discusses CM Punk… “That’s true. He was already known – he had done a lot of the Ring of Honor and local independent-type stuff in the Midwest, and he had done some traveling. He was somewhat well-known on an independent level, and I think when he first got called up, he had a lot going against him. He had to prove his worth – we all have to. Some of us have it easier than others. My father got my foot in the door, but eventually it’s up to the performer to prove themselves, and he definitely proved himself. He’s a multiple world champion; he’s got the background; he’s got the dedication. He won the Money in the Bank years before, and he cashed it in, won the championship – he’s done well for himself. But when it comes to CM Punk, I think as far as talent goes, as far as determination on setting a goal and accomplishing that goal, he is nothing – nothing – compared to me when it comes to getting the job done and performing at that level. I have way more experience than he does performing in front of these kinds of crowds, and I’m going to have the crowd on my side, so he’s got the odds against him going into this thing no matter what way you look at it. And not only that, he’s not going to have the rest of his team – The New Nexus – which is pretty much not even in existence anymore. I have completely put that to an end. But it’s just him; no one has his back at WrestleMania XXVII. And that’s going to be good for me because it’s just man to man, toe to toe, me and CM Punk in the ring, nobody else, no interference, and it’s going to go my way.”
Videos: John Cena, Triple H, and Snooki hype WrestleMania
- Here are the interviews John Cena, Triple H, and Snooki did with Peter Rosenberg:
Would Steve Austin return to WWE?
ESPN.com recently interviewed Steve Austin. Here is an except where Austin discusses a possible return… “I’ll tell you what, sometimes you do, but it’s just like an itch that you scratch and it goes away. We had that ring at Tough Enough, and it’s the same WWE ring they use every week, and I got the chance to bounce around and take some bumps from one of the kids in the contest and gave him a few bumps. Could I still do it? Damn right I could. It may not be quite as good as I used to, but I got it out of my system. I hope people enjoy Tough Enough because I had so much fun doing it, but that’s about as close as I want to be to a business that I love.”

Bret Hart not looking forward to WrestleMania, The Rock-RAW
- The Rock stated that he taped his interview Piers Morgan Tonight in New York City yesterday. It will air on CNN tomorrow. The Rock will also be live on RAW next Monday.
- Bret Hart has provided his thoughts on WrestleMania XXVII on his website. Here is some of what he wrote: “As for the actual line-up, it’s been a slow build for much of the card, but for the past few weeks the promos and backstage situations seemed to be rather plain and flat, totally predictable. The Undertaker and Triple H segment with Shawn Michaels played out exactly like I expected, the usual smoke blowing up the rectum stuff, more grunts and then a staring contest, thank God Shawn was there just to add something, anything to it. I suppose there isn’t much else these two legends can do as far as buildup goes but it came across to me as having little imagination, the match itself should be one of the better match ups because Taker brings it all the way for Wrestlemania and Triple H can turn it up when he wants to. Triple H has had some hard fought battles over the years, but I don’t know if he’s ever had his chance to literally blow them away at Wrestlemania but this might be his best chance. Taker, in my opinion, is truly one of the all-time best and time and time again, he has delivered the best match on the show so I expect a good solid match, old school but intense. It could steal the show.” You can read the entire blog at http://www.brethart.com/
WWE could house Hall of Fame in Tampa, FL
According to HOF inductee Road Warrior Animal, WWE is looking to Tampa, Fl as a possible location for a physical hall of fame.
Tampa is currently the home of Florida Championship Wrestling, WWE’s developmental organization.
Animal told The Score in Canada: “WWE is looking at a big building in Tampa. I’m gonna donate some of my gear there – maybe some of my spiked-shoulder pads will go in the Hall. They’re getting stuff from everybody. And it’s gonna be an attraction – some place where fans can go. It’s gonna be like the Pro Football Hall of Fame.”
He also talked about going in himself. He said, “Well you know how it is. Jealousy is the greatest equalizer (in our business) sometimes. Guys who don’t get invited to it…it’s just jealousy. You look at the path people take in this business, and I knew it was going to be sooner-or-later.”
Zach Ryder-WrestleMania, WWE-MLB update
– Mark Henry threw out the first pitch at last night’s Atlanta Braves game. Eve and Melina said “play ball” together to open the game and John Morrison was a special co-captain.
– Zack Ryder will be filming more episodes of Z! True Long Island Story this weekend in Atlanta.
The Rock surprises fans at WrestleMania press conference
Fans waiting to get into the WrestleMania Press Conference got a big surprise while in line.
The Rock drove up and pulled over in his truck, leaned his head out the window and told them he would be “bringing it” at WrestleMania and would see them soon.
WrestleMania Press Conference Report – Big News
Source: Pwinsider
The Wrestlemania Press Conference in New York City took place today with The Rock, Triple H, The Miz and other on hand.
Here are the highlights:
- Stephanie McMahon welcomed everyone. When the crowd chanted “Hogan sucks”, she said that Hulk “wouldn’t be part of this year’s Wrestlemania, that’s for sure.” She then introduced Triple H. Hunter kissed her and then announced he would be inducting his best friend Shawn Michaels into the WWE Hall of Fame this weekend. Then he cut a promo on The Undertaker.
- The Miz was next, and he said he would retain his belt because he’s awesome.
- John Cena then cut a promo while fans drowned him out with chants for The Rock as well as “same old sh**.”
- Snooki then talked about Lay-Cool and said the name of her team was the “Brunette Mafia”.
- The Rock then spoke as everyone chanted “one more match” and “fruity pebbles”. Snooki asked if she could get a photo with Rock and Cena together. They take the photo then engage in a staredown.
- Vince McMahon was not present for the event.
‘Pro Gay Wrestling Federation’ pissed off at Michael Cole
According to TMZ, the Pro Gay Wrestling Federation is outraged that Michael Cole was not suspended by WWE after using a gay slur on Twitter. PGW champion, The Gay Avenger, says that he’s upset by Cole’s “intolerant and insensitive” comment, and insists the word encourages a “hostile bullying environment.” PGW founder and CEO Francis Minks had the following to say…
“How can ANYONE at the WWE say anything derogatory about gay people?? Look at what they do and have been doing for a living for years! Big muscles, small tights rolling around! I’m just saying, honey. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw sconces!”
Cole has issued an apology, and WWE says Cole will take part in a GLAAD training session in an effort to educate him about discrimination.
There has been a report that Cole will be suspended following WrestleMania.
Breaking News: WWE fires Finlay
Source: Pwinsider.com
World Wrestling Entertainment released Dave Finlay yesterday. He had been solely working as an agent/producer since retiring from in-ring competition last year.
WWE Champion The Miz was booked to interrupt the national anthem during a live event in Champaign, Illinois on Friday. A number of representatives for the National Guard were in attendance (a huge partner and sponsor for WWE) and they were not pleased with the anthem being used to draw heel heat.
Once key WWE officials were informed of the ordeal, a decision was made to terminate his contract immediately, since he was the event’s top producer. Basically, he “had to fall on the sword” and take responsibility for the incident.
His release from the organization comes as a shock to numerous employees. Finlay is well liked and many people are hoping that it is a situation where he could be brought back in the future once things cool off.
Finlay had been with the company from 2001 and was considered the top producer in the organization. Many credit him with orchestrating the women’s division over the past decade.
The real reason for a big WrestleMania match change
Source: Pwinsider
WWE’s creative team plugged Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov into the Eight Man Tag Team Match with The Corre at Wrestlemania XXVII after it was decided that Christian would be in Edge’s corner when “The Rated-R Superstar” defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio. Christian and Kofi Kingston were originally pegged for the match.
It also said that Marella had “earned a spot on the card” based on his tenure with WWE. Management reportedly feels he “hits a home run” with whatever he is told to do on television and since he hadn’t yet worked a WrestleMania match (WrestleMania XXV notwithstanding), he was to be rewarded.
In regards to Kingston not being currently slotted for a match at the event, there has been talk in the last day of him facing Drew McIntyre. We’ll keep you posted as we get more.

What Happened After RAW
After RAW went off the air last night, The Rock slowly got up and simply left. He did pose on the stage, and sold the AA all the way to the back. John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Edge, and Randy Orton then defeated The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, Cody Rhodes, and CM Punk in the dark match main event. Pretty short match all things considered. Eventually the faces ganged up on Alberto and hit all the finishers on him for the win. This was a mega taping. It started at 6:45, and ended at 11:00.
The Rock’s boot coming to ‘Mania + Tough Enough & HOF
– Michael Cole announced on RAW this week that Shawn Michaels, Sunny and The Road Warriors would be the ‘three’ WWE Hall of Famers to featured during the WWE 2011 Hall of Fame Induction broadcast on the USA Network. It airs next Monday at 8:00 p.m. before RAW. Also, WWE Tough Enough airs immediately following next week’s RAW.
– Head WWE SmackDown! writer Michael Hayes celebrated his 52nd birthday yesterday. Yesterday also marked the 24th anniversary of WrestleMania III.
– The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has published an article on WrestleMania XXVII featuring quotes from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, as well as SmackDown! Superstar Cody Rhodes. The Rock reveals his plans for the event. “What I can guarantee in Atlanta is that I will put my boot to candy [rear-ends] live in front of 75,000 strong members of Team Bring It,” Johnson told the newspaper. Also, you can expect to see a ton of WrestleMania media in the coming days from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. They are one of the biggest media outlets in Atlanta so expect to see lots of articles from them.
– Matches taped Monday night in Chicago, Illinois for this Thursday’s episode of WWE Superstars on WGN America are as follows:
* Divas Champion Eve, Gail Kim and Natalya vs. Brie Bella, Melina and Nikki Bella
* Curt Hawkins vs. Trent Barreta
Full spoilers for the show are posted here on the main newsboard.
*Spoilers!* WWE SD! results for Friday 4/1/11
Source: Prowrestling.net
The following content was taped Monday night at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois for this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown on Syfy.
1. Kofi Kingston defeated Wade Barrett by DQ in an Intercontinental Title match. Wade controlled most of the early action. Kofi hit his corner kick and a top rope cross body for a two count. Kofi hit the Boom Drop and went for Trouble in Paradise but was met with a kick to the face for a near fall. Kofi hit a nice move and almost had a two count that was broken up by The Corre. Santino and Kozlov hit the ring but were laid out. Big pyro for Kane and Big Show. The faces cleared the ring and had a stare down with The Corre.
Jerry Lawler out to cut a promo against Michael Cole. Good promo by Lawler. Short and to the point. The King has new music.
2. Cody Rhodes defeated Chris Masters. Taz… er … Kane… No, it’s Cody Rhodes under a black towel. Gimmick Infringement!!! Cole returned during this match (he left prior to Jerry’s promo). Seemed slightly longer than the recent Cody squashes. In the end, a side headbutt and CrossRhodes later and Cody got the win. Rey Mysterio ran down and tried to hit the 619 three different times, but Cody wasn’t having it.
Rumored WWE HOF inductors, Piper-Cena-Rock update, More
– Roddy Piper appeared on Live Audio Wrestling Sunday night, saying that he had pitched an idea to WWE about a Piper’s Pit with The Rock and John Cena. He said that plans had already been set and it had been too late to change it. You can check out the interview at http://lawradio.podbean.com/

They were billed as the most dominant tag team in history. Below is the final list of entrants and rumored inductors for this year’s WWE Hall of Fame class:

* Sunny (inducted by current WWE Divas?)
* Drew Carey (inducted by Bob Barker)
* Abdullah the Butcher (inducted by ??)
* The Road Warriors and Paul Ellering (inducted by Dusty Rhodes?)
Backstage Report: Michael Cole’s Ego Getting ‘Out Of Control’
Source: The Pro Wrestling Torch
Many within World Wrestling Entertainment feel that Michael Cole’s ego has gotten out of control in recent months. There have been reports of “The Voice of WWE” having tremendous heat amongst the locker room. In light of Cole’s Twitter miscue over the weekend, one company source gave his opinion on how the lead WWE announcer conducts himself behind the scenes.
“Is Cole getting a big head? HELL YES,” the source exclaimed. “Ever since he was reading the GM e-mails he started begging to become GM and walks around like his shit doesn’t stink. He has an opinion on everything.”
The source also indicated that Cole berates creative writers who hand him scripts, as he feels he can say whatever he wants on television. Many feel Cole’s on-screen persona has gone to his head as how he portrays himself on television reflects his behavior behind the scenes.
The source indicated that incidents such as his flagrant remark on Twitter would be cause for termination if Vince McMahon was looking for an excuse to release a talent. However, the organization has too much invested in the Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole program to abandon it.
RAW attendance revealed, Cena-Cole issues, Y2J/DWTS
– There were 15,106 fans in attendance at RAW at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL. That was a legit sell out.
– Due to the controversy that John Cena’s promos and Michael Cole’s homophobic tweet have caused, WWE has agreed to shoot some vignettes against bullying and name calling.
– WWE’s house show in Indianapolis reportedly had one of the best turnouts in a long time.
– WWE is sending people to attend Dancing With The Stars each week to get them face time in the crowd while Chris Jericho is on the show.
– Shad Gaspard and Marc Copani (aka Muhammad Hassan) have released a preview trailer of their graphic novel Assassin & Son: PATH OF VENGEANCE. Check it out below:
Jerry Lawler Speaks Out – WrestleMania, Vince McMahon, More
Jerry Lawler recently spoke to IGN.com about his match at WrestleMania with Michael Cole and more. Check out the highlights:
On wanting the original WrestleMania to fail: “Well of course the whole world was talking about the first WrestleMania and how it was a huge risk on the part of Vince McMahon. And there were a lot of people at the time that had local promotions, like myself and Jerry Jarrett who were partners in Mid-South in Memphis, Tennessee. We were hoping to see it flop. We were hoping that it wouldn’t catch on and wouldn’t be a success. But as we all know, it did catch on and it did become a success and it’s the crown jewel of WWE pay per view events each and every year. It’s the biggest thing in the sports entertainment world now. But personally, my old personal self-interests at the time, we were worried that if the first WrestleMania went over big then it would spell the end of the local and regional territories. And we were pretty much right. And Vince was right too, in the respect that he thought this thing had legs and would grow and it has. And it’s just become phenomenal.”
On Vince McMahon’s opinion on the Andy Kaufman feud: “I just had Vince McMahon tell me, not that long ago, he said, “Man, you can’t imagine. I’ve never told anyone this but I was actually jealous of the fact that you got to do what you did with Andy Kaufman because I knew that we had the opportunity to do it first and we turned it down. And then all of a sudden you guys were on TV and in New York. You got to be on David Letterman and Saturday Night Live. It just blew up.”"
On whether he would rather face an actual wrestler at WrestleMania: “Would I have preferred for it to be a wrestler? Maybe at first. But now, looking back on the way this has all unfolded and the way it’s going to be now, I couldn’t have had a better opponent. Especially now that it’s so reminiscent of the actual Andy Kaufman feud. I mean here, just like Andy, I’m going in the ring against a guy who’s never competed. Not only at WrestleMania, but anywhere. So the curiosity factor of what will be going through Michael Cole’s mind, other than my fist, makes this the perfect match up here. The people want to see Michael Cole get completely destroyed. They know without the help of Jack Swagger he’s going to be helpless and they know that with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin being in the match as the referee, they know he’s not going to put up with interference and foolishness. So it’ll just come down to me and Cole once that bell rings. So, to me, that’s perfect. Because if I can’t put a major league whooping on Michael Cole, after all the years I’ve been in the business, then something’s wrong.”

WrestleMania 27 *Spoilers!* & original plans!
Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter
As everyone knows by now, WrestleMania 27 is this Sunday night on pay-per-view. The event begins at a special start time of 7:00EST. As of last week, the following was discussed in WWE creative meetings:
– The original plans for the Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan match at WrestleMania 27 was to have both Bella Twins in the corner of Sheamus while Gail Kim would have been in the corner of Bryan. They can still go that route with RAW being taped tonight but it appears those plans have been scrapped.
– As noted earlier here on the website, there was talk last week about adding Christian to the Alberto Del Rio vs. Edge World title match at WrestleMania 27. There was also talk of having Christian in the corner of Edge at ‘Mania. This would have resulted in a heel turn, costing Edge the World title. That would then have eventually set up a three-way dance for the World title. Of course, plans changed numerous times and now Christian is in a tag-team match at the pay-per-view. This is expected to be confirmed on RAW tonight.
Backstage update – The Rock’s in-ring return?
Both WWE and The Rock are very happy with the current Cena-Miz-Rock storyline.
The Rock originally agreed to host WrestleMania 27 back in January but he’s so genuinely happy about being back that he’s said to be more than willing to get back in the ring for a few more matches.
WWE is being very secretive about any plans for more matches. Most people within WWE expect The Rock to wrestle both John Cena and The Miz at some point. He’s also expected to stick around on a part-time basis following WrestleMania 27.
You’ve got to give the guy credit as he hasn’t plugged any movies and seems to be more than willing to stick around.
Big Randy Savage announcement shortly?, Y2J
– As noted earlier here on the website, Chris Jericho wrote a blog for TVSquad.com discussing ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Jericho noted that he was extremely nervous on last week’s debut episode. “I’ve performed in front of crowds of up to 70,000 people for more than two decades, but last week I experienced a whole different animal,” he said. “Something so foreign, so terrifying, so intimidating that, beforehand, I was as nervous as a 12-year-old girl meeting Justin Bieber for the first time. Yes, kiddies, I was about to make my ballroom debut on ‘Dancing With the Stars’! After rehearsing incessantly for more than three weeks with my partner Cheryl Burke, it was finally time to do the first show. My dress rehearsals had been a bit shaky — performing my routine in the actual ‘DWTS’ studio was scary. Suddenly the guy who had a so-called advantage because of years of performing live was behind the eight ball.”
– “The Genuis” Lanny Poffo recently appeared on The Wrestling Minute radio show and revealed some news about his real-life brother, The “Macho Man” Randy Savage. “I’m not going to reveal his big secret because I am afraid of what he’ll do to me if I do, but keep watching, in the next month or so Macho Man will be doing something BIG!”, said Poffo. We’ll keep you posted here on the website.
*Spoilers!* update – new WrestleMania match?
Partial Source: Pwinsider
Earlier today here on the website, we reported that the source code on the front page of the new WWE.com reveals an Eight-Man Tag Team Match taking place at WrestleMania XXVII with The Corre going up against The Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston and Christian. The page, however, has not been published as it presently reads “Access Denied.” That is expected to change later tonight following RAW. Read below for the spoiler.
In an update on this, a backstage source has confirmed that WWE will indeed announce The Corre vs. The Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston and Christian for WrestleMania 27 during tonight’s RAW broadcast.
We’ll have free live RAW coverage in just a little bit. Stay tuned as it’s going to be a wild night with the go-home RAW for WrestleMania 27. Lots of news and post-RAW coverage will continue tonight. Tomorrow is the day things REALLY pick up with WWE talents arriving in Atlanta, GA. Also, remember that the WrestleMania 27 PPV stream will be posted on this blog for FREE!...Here we go!!!
Is The Rock backstage at RAW?, backstage news
Source: Pwinsider.com
– The Rock is already in Chicago for tonight’s RAW broadcast. We’re told he arrived last night and stayed at the same hotel as the rest of the WWE crew. He was sad to be approachable by fans who stopped him for photos and he took time out to ask fans what they wanted to see out of his return.
– As noted earlier, The Rock appears on Piers Morgan Tonight this Thursday night. He will be in studio (the show tapes in Atlanta, GA) and will be promoting WrestleMania 27. The Rock is expected to travel with the WWE crew tonight after RAW and head to Atlanta, GA. He’ll be there throughout the week with everyone else.
– For what it’s worth, almost everyone within WWE expects The Rock to wrestle another match. It’s just a matter of when and who at this point.
Report: not-yet-announced WrestleMania match?, RAW *Spoilers!*
- It is expected that the WWE will announce tonight on RAW that The Road Warriors will be going into the WWE Hall of Fame. Paul Ellering may be inducted with them, but that is not confirmed just yet.
It is expected that Dusty Rhodes will induct them into the hall at Saturday night’s ceremony.
- The source code on the front page of WWE.com reveals an Eight-Man Tag Team Match taking place at WrestleMania XXVII with The Corre going up against The Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston and Christian.
The page, however, has not been published as it presently reads “Access Denied.” It should be noted that this match had been planned as of last week. There were also talks to add Christian to the Del Rio/Edge match but obviously that didn’t happen.
We’ll see what happens at tonight’s TV tapings. They also could announce this during the week via WWE.com. We’ll see soon enough!
Otunga not happy with J-Hud’s weight loss, Piper
– Roddy Piper and The Miz will be appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow night, promoting WrestleMania 27 and the WWE All Stars game. The segment was taped last week.
– WWE Superstar David Otunga is none too pleased with fiancé Jennifer Hudson’s significant weight loss, who has lost a grand total of 80 pounds. The recording artist, actress and Weight Watchers spokesperson appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday where she was asked “What does your fiancé think, does he like the new svelte you?” J-Hud responded, “He’s getting adjusted to it. He’s not really into change that much so he fusses at me like, “Why do you have to have to get all dressed up to go out and why can’t you just go out like you used to?” And I’m like “I’m a walking billboard now honey.”
– A source sent this one in: Randy Orton had a semi-private signing at The Sears Holding Corporation in Hoffman estates, IL. I didn’t see it promoted anywhere, and you needed to work at the office or be let in as family or a guest to attend. I’m bad with numbers but there appeared to be a few hundred people here. Kmart is headquartered in the Sears building, and obviously this was part of the new relationship between Kmart and WWE. We were treated to a short speech by a Kmart marketing executive and Orton, which was mostly about this being a big relationship, plus the dinner table commercial, and of course Raw tonight and WrestleMania. There’s going to be some alternate endings to the ad aired in the future. As a nice surprise, instead of getting a cheap piece of paper for signatures, we instead got a full size poster. Very nice! He was kind of tired, but otherwise pleasant.
Tough Enough cast at WrestleMania?, The Rock
– WrestleMania XXVII host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is scheduled for Piers Morgan Tonight on CNN. His appearance airs this Thursday at 9:00 p.m. In January, the talk show filled the time slot formerly held by Larry King Live.
– The cast of WWE Tough Enough are scheduled to appear at WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta, Georgia. They are also scheduled for the following night’s Monday Night RAW TV taping.

Cole praises Lawler & Cole’s son working with WWE
The Poughkeepsie Journal published an article today on Michael Cole. When asked about his match at WrestleMania XXVII, the Amenia, New York native broke character and said, “The dream’s come true. I’m participating in an event against a man who is an absolute legend and Hall of Famer in Jerry Lawler. I’m so honored and privileged just to have the opportunity to participate in a match against this man.
“Plus Stone Cold is our special referee. To be in there with two of the greatest icons, it’s like a reality check. It’s such a great ride.”
He also said that his 24-year-old son Calvin is working for WWE in the television production department and travels with him on the road. The full story can be read at http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/
Sin Cara’s finisher revealed
Sin Cara beat Primo via submission at Saturday night’s RAW live event in Evansville, Indiana. His finisher is a huracanrana into an armbar. The match went 10 to 15 minutes.
Cole’s Major Issues, AXXESS
– As noted earlier here on the website, Michael Cole is in some deep shit as it pertains to his homophobic tweet earlier today. In the “corporate reality world”, almost nobody apologizes for things like this unless there is major pressure to do so from the higher-ups. That was indeed the case today as Cole was notified by WWE management to remove the tweet ASAP and issue an apology. WWE isn’t happy about it. Also, WWE and GLAAD were just in a major spat over remarks made in several recent John Cena interviews as well as a segment on RAW where he addressed The Rock. WWE pretty much promised them that nothing like this would happen again and now we’ve got the incident today. Trust me when I tell you this is going to be made into a big deal in the media. Ask Dana White what happened several months ago when he did the same thing. It’s not good news for WWE.
– All the big WWE “draws” are expected to be at the WrestleMania 27 press conference next Wednesday. They include Triple H, The Rock, Edge, John Cena and yes….. Snooki if she’s not tanked!

Steve Austin Speaks Out: Tough Enough, ‘What’
Steve Austin recently spoke to IGN.com about how eliminations will be handled on WWE Tough Enough and more. Check out the highlights:
On the elimination process: “My job is to sort through these contestants, weed out the weak and find the strong, and look for the person who is strong enough and tough enough and smart enough to be a WWE superstar. You know, there’s a lot of people that can get in this ring at a local or independent level, but it take a real special person to compete at the level of the WWE superstars and divas do. So, it’s my job to weed through that. Some of [the contestants] are green as grass, some of them have never really been in a ring before. Some of them have quite a few years of experience. But I paid a lot of dues when I broke into this business. I want them to learn to respect what goes on inside this 20×20 ring, and just pay some dues, as much as they can, while they’re here, and to learn this business from the bottom up. I just want them to have a sense of really what are the responsibilities of a WWE superstar, and I want them to pay some dues, and I want them to appreciate the rise or fall, but I want them to have a good time while they’re here.”
On “What” chants: “I tell you what, I would have never in a million years went up to Vince and said, ‘Hey, I’ve got this thing that I’m going to do and it’s going to make people say ‘What?’ after every pause or break in someone’s promo for the next ten years. I had no idea that even these days, when Michael Cole’s in the ring cutting a promo, if he puts that pause in there, they’ll come with a ‘What?!’ – but it’s been interesting!”
Report: WWE Talents jealous of Sin Cara?
Source: The Pro Wrestling Torch
Rumors recently surfaced online indicating that Rey Mysterio asked World Wrestling Entertainment officials to release him from his contract following WrestleMania XXVII. Mysterio, however, shot down the rumors on his Twitter account, saying he did not ask to be released and that he will be around for a while. According to a source, Mysterio did in fact have a ‘blow-up’ with WWE management back in February.
Former WCW star Konnan, a longtime friend of Mysterio, told a source that the assumption that the SmackDown! star is bothered by the recent signing of Mexican sensation Sin Cara is way off. He said Mysterio isn’t the type to be jealous. Rather, he welcomes new talent as potential rivals or teammates.
It would appear that Mysterio and Sin Cara will be kept on opposite WWE brands for the time being as the newcomer is slated to initially work RAW live events. As noted earlier here on the website, he made his first appearance inside a WWE ring at last night’s RAW house show in Assembly Hall in Champaign, Illinois, defeating WWE Superstars fixture Primo.
Meanwhile, Alberto Del Rio was asked to comment on WWE signing Sin Cara during an interview published earlier this week on latino.foxnews.com. While the article says he is “pleased” to hear WWE sign a fellow countryman, he doesn’t acknowledge Sin Cara in particular. He instead says that he’s happy WWE is using a number of Latino wrestlers, before turning the subject back to himself.
“I’m just happy this company uses so many Latino talent,” Del Rio said. “There is so much talent out there, from Puerto Rico to Mexico, just to name a few. I hope it continues like that. Because of that, I am here and getting all these opportunities.”
According to another backstage source, the claim of Del Rio being “pleased” about Sin Cara joining WWE is contrary to a behind the scenes story they’ve heard. We’ll have more on that shortly.

TMZ covers Michael Cole slur – WWE responds
TMZ.com has picked up the story on Michael Cole calling fellow WWE announcer Josh Matthews a “faggot” earlier today via Twitter. This is exactly what WWE didn’t want to happen. You can expect the story to appear in numerous media outlets now that TMZ has picked it up. It’s obviously not good news for WWE, especially with Michael Cole set for a main event match at WrestleMania 27 next Sunday.
The one word message was deleted approximately half an hour later and an apology was issued.
“I apologize to any and all who were offended by my tweet toward young Josh Mathews,” Cole wrote. “It was obviously not meant the way it was taken.”
He later added, “I was not ordered to apologize I said I am sorry because I am. Now can I get back to being a character again please?”
Here is the TMZ.com article:
Less than two weeks after the WWE and GLAAD teamed up to say they were going to work together to curb homophobic slurs in wrestling, one of the WWE’s top announcers tweeted one at a fellow announcer.
Earlier today, Michael Cole simply tweeted one disgusting word towards fellow announcer Josh Mathews. Cole quickly took down the tweet and apologized.
The WWE and GLAAD announced a partnership on March 17 to try and put an end to bullying based on sexual orientation after a series of homophobic taunts was made by wrestler John Cena.
WWE said at the time: “WWE takes this issue very seriously, and has already spoken with our talent about these incidents. We are taking steps and working with GLAAD to ensure that our fans know that WWE is against bullying or discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.”
A rep for the WWE tells TMZ, “WWE has alerted GLAAD to the situation and spoken to Michael Cole about his post. He has removed it and apologized for using hateful language. Michael will be included in the training session being done by GLAAD. WWE takes this very seriously and is against discrimination of any kind based on sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or other.”
A rep for GLAAD could not be reached for comment.
TMZ.com has also posted screen caps from Cole’s tweet. It should be noted that Cole earlier tweeted that he was not told to issue an apology. WWE’s statement to TMZ.com contradicts that statement. Once again, damage control at its finest folks! I can’t imagine Vince McMahon is thrilled with this either. Good luck at RAW Monday, Michael!
UPDATE: The Baltimore Sun has picked up the story. Expect a ton more in the coming days.
Report: Snooki causes major WWE issues – drunk!
Source: PopTheCrowd.com
THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS A **SPOILER** FOR THIS MONDAY’S RAW TELECAST:
As noted yesterday here on the website, WWE shot a major angle Wednesday at Miami Mike’s Sports Zone in East Hanover, New Jersey involving Nicole “Snooki” Polazzi, Trish Stratus and LayCool for this Monday’s RAW. The segment features LayCool searching the bar for Snooki and Stratus. The Jersey Shore star gets into a fight with a “guido” and then LayCool finds her, resulting in a bar-room brawl. Layla and Michelle McCool also went through a table at one point. Fit Finlay and David Kapoor (better known as Ranjin Singh) directed the segment.
In an update on this, filming was delayed from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. because Snooki didn’t leave her hotel room until 1:00 p.m. They shot until close to 8:00 p.m.
Snooki was said to have been drinking heavily throughout the day and was rude to people on set. She called the bartender a ‘weirdo’ and also said she was going to be a full-time WWE Diva once Jersey Shore is finished. She also said she was leaving to go bowling after the segment was finished taping and would return later for more drinks.

Backstage Injury Updates – Mysterio & Sheffield
– Actress Jennifer Hudson recently did an interview with USA Today and noted the following regarding her real-life relationship with WWE star David Otunga yet: “Not yet! I’m engaged. Everything is all ready to go. Originally I wanted the biggest, grandest wedding in the world. Now I don’t know.”
– Rey Mysterio has been receiving cartilage injections in his knee to help him work through an injury that will eventually require surgery. So far, Mysterio has received between 8 and 12 of these shots and says he’ll likely get several more following WrestleMania 27.
– Former WWE NXT and Nexus star Skip Sheffield underwent a second surgery to repair a trapped nerve in his injured leg about two months ago. Sheffield is now off crutches and continues to rehab the leg. No word on his return date.
Randy Orton Speaks Out – Face Turn, Cena/Rock
Randy Orton recently spoke with ESPN.com about his babyface turn, the WWE All-Stars game and more. Check out the highlights:
On his face turn: When you go from being a good guy to a bad guy or vice versa like I did, everyone always tells you, “Don’t change, don’t change.” And in my case, the less change the better because what really happened is the fans turned me. This wasn’t some master plan where all of a sudden I was going to be a good guy, I just started getting a lot of fan support. It’s a fine line because I wasn’t going out there like John Cena high-fiving kids and hugging grandmas and pumping my fist and smiling … if I would’ve done that, I would’ve failed tremendously, kind of like it did back in 2004, when I became the youngest champion in WWE history. That didn’t work at all because I changed so much. So it’s really about looking at your character, seeing what people like about me, like about my character, and seeing how much I can change without changing too much and walking that fine line. I think I’ve done a pretty good job. I’m definitely still learning on the job, though. It took me about five years to get really comfortable as a bad guy, as a heel, and I expect to take another couple of years as a good guy to really come into my own, but I’m definitely on the right path.”
On The Rock vs. John Cena: “I know them both, and I know Cena a lot better than I know The Rock, obviously, but I’ve been in the ring with both cutting promos and wrestling. I have to say, though, talking about the whole ring rust thing, John Cena has had about 2,000 matches in the last seven years. The Rock? A big, fat zero. So when it comes to ring rust, I don’t care what type of athlete you are, and The Rock is obviously an athletic dude, but Cena has been in the ring. He’s been at every show and in every show and making appearances and he has been on the road with the WWE over 300 days a year for the last seven years. The Rock? Virtually non-existent. You see the interviews that The Rock does and he says that he doesn’t want to be known as a wrestler. He doesn’t want to be known as a sports entertainer or a performer with WWE or a WWE superstar. He wants to be known as an actor. Now all of a sudden he’s back in our world telling the fans what they want to hear. He’s telling them: “I promise that I will never go away again. I promise that I’m back for good and that I’m here to stay.” He said that, what, six or seven weeks ago? Have we even seen him live since then? No. Via satellite. I think Cena will own The Rock. I think Cena is wittier and can go off the cuff. Cena writes his own stuff while The Rock has stuff written for him. It just all comes down to who you are in the ring and what kind of performer you are in the ring, and I think Cena is ten times the performer in the ring that The Rock is. This Monday in Chicago, he’ll prove it.”

– Cena says that while Shawn Michaels is his all-time favorite tag team partner, it took time for the two to become friends.
“He was one of those guys that – when I started – wasn’t too fond of me, but we ended up actually becoming really good friends,” Cena said. “The fact that I was fortunate enough to hold the Tag Team Championships, even though it was for a short amount of time, was my most memorable.”
– Cena commented on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s return to WWE.
He said, “I’ve wanted him to come back for five years now. I’m glad he’s finally back. I just hope he sticks around. I guess time will tell.”
– Regarding Nicole “Snooki” Polazzi’s involvement at WrestleMania XXVII, he said, “I’ve seen her get in some crazy situations on that television show. She will be just fine. If she goes out there and is just herself, she will make a WrestleMania Moment.”
– When asked if his wife gets upset with his strenuous road schedule with WWE, Cena said, “She does. But, we’ve known each other for quite some time. She knows that’s the way I’m built.”
He added that he prioritizes things as “work first and everything else will sort itself out.”
The video interview is available below:

Do not call WWE a wrestling company! – details
Credit: TV Week
WWE sent a demand to a website that called them a wrestling company to change their wording. TVWeek.com had a headline that ran “‘Drew Carey inducted into pro wrestling Hall of Fame.” According to the site, they received an email from WWE publicist Kellie Baldyga, ordering them to change the headline because “We are no longer a wrestling company but rather a global entertainment company with a movie studio, international licensing deals, publisher of three magazines, consumer good distributor and more.”
The publicist further said “No, we don’t do wrestling events. They’re entertainments. And we don’t call them wrestlers. They’re superstars and divas.”
TVWeek refused the request and removed the article rather than change the headline.
Major changes to two top WrestleMania matches!
Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter
– According to sources within WWE, a change is expected to be made to a top tier WrestleMania match over the next few days. Many are speculating that Christian will be added to the World Heavyweight Championship Match between Edge and Alberto Del Rio.
– As of yesterday, creative plans called for Triple H vs. The Undertaker to conclude WrestleMania, with no career ending stipulations.
WWE star debuts new name, character & finisher!
Husky Harris, who was demoted last month to Florida Championship Wrestling (though officially still listed as a RAW Superstar), recently debuted a masked character in the developmental promotion.
Paying homage to his grandfather, WWE Hall of Famer Blackjack Mulligan, Harris appeared at the March 9 and 16 FCW live events as Axl Mulligan. His appearance appears based on the Lord Humongous character from the 1981 film Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, which spurned various knock-offs in wrestling. Harris wears jeans and a black Misfits T-shirt to go along with the hockey like mask.
It is unclear as to whether the character will continue as Harris appeared as himself at last Thursday’s FCW live event, one day removed from appearing as the masked persona.
Update: The Future of WWE Superstars?
WGN America confirmed last week that WWE Superstars has been canceled. The final episode will air on April 7. Despite the cancellation, it is expected to continue as a WWE.com-exclusive/overseas show.

Shawn Michaels Speaks Out: retirement, return?, More
Shawn Michaels spoke in the new issue of WWE Magazine about his post-wrestling life, the Hall of Fame and more. Here are some of the highlights:
On his retirement: “No matter how many times you say, ‘I’m not coming back,’ someone will always question you. There’s always someone out there, especially with the Internet, saying you’ll be coming back, or that you have ulterior motives, or whatever. That’s just part of the gig.”
On whether the Undertaker is a factor in his staying retired: “Again, I’m in a position where I have the luxury of being able to say, ‘No, I don’t want to do that’ if I don’t want to do something. And, if I say that, it’s not going to happen. I wouldn’t have put my career on the line against Undertaker’s streak if I wasn’t 100 percent ready to accept the consequences. Staying retired is as much about respecting him, and the match, as it is about respecting the promise I made to myself and my family. Sometimes there are moments that you just can’t beat.”
On Ric Flair’s return: “So many people ask me about Ric, and whether his return bothers me. I always say, ‘Absolutely not.’ One match at Wrestlemania XXIV – that moment – was truly 100 percent real to me. And it was real to him. And that’s never going to change. I want Ric to be happy. And to be perfectly honest, I know he’s happiest when he’s in the ring. That moment will always be very special to me.”
On guys who return after retiring: “It’s very tough to make a well thought-out decision when you don’t have the time to think it out. I had that luxury, I was able to craft the circumstances surrounding my exit to the point that the career-ending stipulation meant something. I understand why people can’t stay away. The atmosphere of the business – being around the guys in the locker room or out in the ring – can be very intoxicating.”
WWE Tough Enough filming finished!
Steve Austin said this morning on his Twitter account that WWE Tough Enough has concluded filming. “Well…just finished with Tough Enough…it was a helluva lot of fun…thanks to @BillDeMott, @trishstratuscom, and Booker T..great cats.”

Cody Rhodes Speaks Out: Rey/’Mania, Father’s Ego, More
Cody Rhodes recently spoke with SLAM! Wrestling, here are the highlights…
On Facing Rey At WrestleMania: “I’m not one for false promises, exaggeration or hyperbole. In sports entertainment, you hear a lot of those. But I really believe this match has potential to steal the show. We’re stacked up against some beautiful matches and this is my hometown so that would be an added bonus. It’s our best superstars. I wouldn’t feel comfortable without having a quality story. I used to think I should be on Mania, but looking back, no, I shouldn’t have been. I wasn’t ready.”
On His Father’s Vide Of WrestleMania: “I was talking to my dad (Wednesday night) and he had some advice about the Super Bowl, Wrestlemania and other major sporting events … he said they were just another game. I don’t agree with that. It’s not just another game. If someone is whispering in your ear that this is the biggest event in sports entertainment history, you move faster, you jump higher. You’re trying to give fans something they’ll remember forever.”
On His Ability: “I was an awesome amateur wrestler, no pun intended for The Miz. I would do stand-up drills in the shower every morning. I did the stadiums, waking up at 5 in the morning. I was on a low-cal diet before I was 18. One of my least favorite things that’s accepted on the internet is the level of technical wrestling ability of some. I would tie Daniel Bryan up in knots in 15 minutes.”
Did His Father Inspire Him?: “With no disrespect to him, I speak to him on a regular basis, but I’ve always tried to get my inspiration from other sources. I’m not helping anybody by being Dusty Rhodes Jr. That would just be reminding people what they saw years ago. One of my biggest influences was Shawn Michaels. How does (my dad) take it? He’s doesn’t take it good-naturedly. He has an ego the size of the state he came from. He feels he should be listened to. A funny story: The night my dad went into the Hall of Fame, he was the last one to speak, and one of the production people said the show was short, then told my dad: ‘Dusty, you can talk as long as you want.’ My brother said, ‘Why are you up last? Who did you ever beat?’ My dad turned and said: ‘Everybody out on that stage, boy!’ When he has that WWE marquee, he turns it on.”

Update: Why WWE Superstars was cancelled
Partial Source: Pwinsider
WGN reportedly canceled WWE Superstars because the network was paying too much for what they were getting. The network was hoping that the show would help their national ratings, as they don’t have a huge amount of coverage across the country, and because WWE is a proven ratings draw, the network thought that they might help them get picked up by other cable systems.
Unfortunately, due to the show’s third-tier status, it did not get the ratings the company was looking for. Some talent in the company are concerned for their status with the loss of the show.

Jim Ross ‘Injury’ Update & Y2J’s WWE Return
– Jim Ross posted the following on Twitter: “Cole may not know how to really apply ankle lock but Swagger sure as hell does & he did the damage on me. Cole aggravated it, like a rash. I’m not ‘selling’ my ankle. ‘Selling’ indicates my ankle isn’t hurt. Wrong. Legit injury but oliver stone’s out there should believe what they choose.”
– WWE.com has a new interview up with Chris Jericho. In it, he talks about Dancing With The Stars, WWE, and more. On why he isn’t with WWE right now, he said “One of the reasons I’m not in WWE now is DWTS,” Jericho said. “You have to be 100 percent physically and mentally devoted to one or the other. You can’t do both. I’m sure I’ll be back. I have to return to WWE to take my persona back. I watched Raw on Monday and felt like I was having an out of body experience. I was watching myself on live TV! Then I realized I hadn’t gotten that ugly and become that bad of a wrestler and realized I was actually watching the current WWE Champion, The Miz.”
GLAAD not happy with WWE
The Gay and Lesbian Anti-Defamation Defense League issued a statement announcing that WWE will be working with GLAAD to create and promote an anti-bullying initiative and also offered GLAAD the opportunity to conduct trainings for their staff of writers and editors. The issue came up after the John Cena used gay remark towards The Rock and The Miz on RAW, something that GLAAD wasn’t glad about. “We reached out to WWE Incorporated, which responded swiftly and positively,” said the statement. “The incidents were particularly troubling because WWE recently began promoting itself as PG-rated entertainment marketed primarily towards adolescent males,” the statement continued. “And there was wrestling superstar John Cena performing what amounted to scripted homophobic bullying of other wrestlers on a nationally broadcast show for kids.” WWE assured GLAAD that such incidents won’t happen again and issued an apology. “WWE takes this issue very seriously, and has already spoken with our talent about these incidents. We are taking steps and working with GLAAD to ensure that our fans know that WWE is against bullying or discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. We strongly value our fans in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, and apologize to them for these incidents.”

Ex-WWE Diva Ashley Massaro rips Velvet Sky!
Former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro appeared on last night’s episode of the online show Highway 2 Helms (hosted by former WWE talent Gregory Shane Helms), during which she took a noteworthy shot at TNA Knockout Velvet Sky.
While Helms was discussing a WWE road story that took place years ago in Corpus Christi, Texas, Jonny Fairplay name dropped Velvet Sky, Helms’ former beau. Massaro immediately blurted out, “Fuck that bitch!” She then pretended that she said it by accident before laughing.
The two wrestling starlets have a history of bad blood as Velvet Sky stated during a June 2008 interview that the escort agency allegations surrounding Massaro at the time were “disgusting.” She said that people close to Massaro told her that they would not be surprised if the allegations were true. The TNA Knockout also didn’t believe the reports of Massaro being mistakenly identified (for a Las Vegas based bikini model, which was never confirmed).
Massaro stated earlier in the webcast that she has a show coming out this fall, but would not reveal details. She also mentioned appearing on the DivaMania Tour, which kicks off Saturday at Starters Riverport in Bethlehem, PA.
